Good things come to those who wait...

...and wait I did!

You see, I love shopping. Particularly antiquing. And on my birthday thrifting trip, I found two items that I'd almost purchased at antique stores. I'm glad I didn't, because they were $0.99 at Goodwill rather than $6 and $8, respectively! Woo hoo. Gotta love it when your patience pays off! Patience + Birthday = Thrifting Win!

Without further ado, here are my latest fab finds:

I grabbed a bunch of crafting supplies for cheap--the wreath forms were $0.99 and $0.49 (compared to $2-6 in stores) and the embroidery hoops ranged from $0.29- $0.99. I have plans to make some fabric hoop art like this

Of course I gravitated toward the glassware and brought some home with me. The cheese dome was the most expensive of the bunch ($1.99), but I had to get it because my last one (a 99-cent-er, because it didn't have a wooden plate with it) befell a terrible fate, and I needed a replacement.

I also got 2 milk glass bud vases at $0.49 for my growing collection--I like the eclectic mix I have so far, and am on the lookout for a hobnail one now!

Here are some close-ups of the jars I bought--a small Kerr canning jar ($0.49), a wide-mouth Ball jar (great for holding tealights or other vase filler, $0.69), a tall canning jar with an ounces to cups conversion chart ($0.99), and a small lidded Wheaton jar ($0.99). I've actually seen (and almost bought!) the same jar in an antique store for $8 (and here it is on Etsy for $10 plus $8 shipping!) See, good things come to those who wait!

And a close-up of the tall jar's conversion chart:

Another instance of I'm-glad-I-waited: I've seen the same milk glass pedestal bowl for $4-6 while antiquing and I've always been this close to getting it. Good thing I didn't, because I got it at Goodwill for $0.99!

I also snatched up a pair of Reader's Digest books and a small silver dish that I plan to stash jewelry in.

At $2.99 a pop, the books were the most expensive purchase of the day. My Goodwill actually had a whole shelf of the beauties:

But I restrained myself and only bought two. I love their colors! (I mean, clearly--they're the same colors as this blog!)

My last finds? These wooden fruits (and maybe some veggies? An avocado? An artichoke?) They were $0.49 a pop, so $2.50 for the set. There was actually a bunch of grapes, but it was kinda ooglay, so I left them. I think they'll look lovely as a centerpiece, perhaps in a milk glass pedestal bowl like this one.

So that's how I made out! It was definitely a great trip after my month-long hiatus.

Any fab finds you'd like to share? Tell me in the comments!

  2. How fun! I want to do this kind of shopping when I come to visit!

I have a lovely hobnail vase that you might consider to be "antique," since I have had it for over 40 years. It is stashed in a cupboard, and I never use it or display it. You may have it if you decide you like it.

I also have a set of hobnail lamps that are "antiques" from the late 1950's or early 1960's that Grandma bought for me; I discarded the lampshades last fall, so that's what they need. Finally, I have a hobnail lamp that is a hurricane lamp shape on the top and a nightlight on the bottom. It is in your old bedroom--the pink guest room. I don't think these fit your current living quarters, but if you want to claim them for the future, they are yours.

    1. We can definitely do some thrifting on your visit!! There are 3 shops I usually have luck in.

I am sure I'd love the hobnail vase! I'll look at it when I come home.As for the lamps, you're probably right that they're not exactly our style--but then again our style is fairly eclectic, so who knows!
